Rachel, Scout and I actual took last weekend off and went to Falls Creek which was great family time after a hectic preparation year, and also a bit of a break prior to the busy next few months. It was a great time with no injuries.
The builders are back in Pats Archery finishing all the final parts to ensure the shop is finished completly prior to the beginning of the Australian Open. It is really like building a house I can tell you with all the additional things that need to be done.
Entry and parking is now off Breckan St, Victor Harbor and now new dedicated parking exists, which is also a really great upgrade.

Very pleased today with the Results of the 1st in Open Mens Compound in the Australian National Indoor 588/595, the 595 was a new Australian Record. Even though I hold the State record at 598 it was not FITA registered and couldn't be claimed. I was using the 2010 Contender Elite, coupled with Easton X7 2315 and the NEW Easton Micro Lite Nock.
Also Congratulattions go out to Tristan Barrett for winning the Junior Boys Compound, great matching of the all new HOYT Maxxis with the 2315 X7.
Congratulations to all for competing this weekend with Approximately 600 entrants.

Tristan drops a 581 in the first round of the National Indoor GREAT JOB!
Liam Mowbray with an excellent 561, keep them coming.
25/06/2010
I shot the first QRE on 25/06 with the new 50m 72 arrow round. In bad conditions I shot 349-354 with a 703 total. I was very happy with the Contender Elite today and I was also happy with my form. I have noticed that increasing the size of the dot in my scope has helped me aim better at both 50m and 18m so I hope it helps me in the National Indoor which is coming up very soon.
Something I had to consider was the tension that I was getting in my bowhand wrist as I pushed towards the target. Occasionally this would cause me to not use the bone on bone solid structure I like and I started to use the muscles, which tire more easily. Consider relaxing your bowhand and pushing with a low front shoulder position, it has helped me.

Bulk supplies of the All new Peep Alignment tools have arrived, great value at $39.99. Have you ever been worried why your arrows are going high or low, check your PEEP! An awesome invention that will take the guess factor out of your peep height.

Great practise thismorning with the MAXXIS.
A big weekend with the MAXXIS 35, Indoor Friday Night, Field at Eden on Saturday, State Target on Sunday, Indoor at Goolwa on Monday!
I am really enjoying the weight and the accuracy of the MAXXIS, the STS upgrade kit is also excellent.
27/05/2010
Dorian and I have been practising the new HIT MISS game, looks like it will be a great event.
SHIBUYA have just advised that my new CPX sights are on the way, yippeee, looking forward to that for sure.
Worth considering :
I got asked the other day by a friend, "Why don't my arrows hit the middle of the target ?" I asked him, "well first things first, where do you aim ?" the reply was, "I try to aim in the middle but just before I release I have the think about the trigger so I have no idea where I am aiming when the trigger goes off".
Whilst aiming at the target and making the shot, push towards the target and squeeze at the same time, the shot will go off all by itself, take your time and aim throughout the process.

Pats new DOINKER FATTY on his MAXXIS 35, see it this weekend at Eden Archery Club on Saturday or SA State Titles on Sunday, feel free to ask for a shot if you like.

Not great news at the National's, I had to withdraw as I have some issue's with my shoulder due to over training. The fix was 1 week off and some injections then I lighter mass weight bow for a while.
Good news for HOYT with a win to the Carbon Matrix and the Easton Protour in the Men's Compound Target Event.
AWESOME News Pats Archery Staff Shooter : Sherry Gale wins GOLD in the Ladies Compound with a Ultra Elite ( the preceeding model to the latest Contender Elite ). Great Shooting Sherry, you have been putting in a lot of hard work.
Also a Welcome to Marcel Verstegen from Victoria to the Pats Archery team. Marcel will be shooting the new Carbon Matrix, so go and ask him some questions, he is only more than happy to help!

Another weekend of trials over at the AIS for the Commonwealth Games, Total Matches 21, Wins 15 Byes 2 Draw 1 loss 3.
The Contender Elite is shooting really well, when the wind picked up on Sunday the Contender stood alone.
04/04/2010
Many Junior Shooters start Day 1 today of the Junior Nationals in Perth WA. Shoot well.
Good Luck especially to Tristan Barrett shooting his new MAXXIS 35 and A/C/G's for the first time at a National Tournament.
03/04/2010
Dorian Wildman is starting work at Pats Archery, this is excellent news, as Dorian has excellent experience and a background in 3D / ABA and hunting forms of Archery. Dorian will be learning the ropes over the next few months, and will be here taking the reigns over while I am oversea's. Beth still pops in a few hours a week and her baby news is all going well, so we are anxiously awaiting here return around Commonwealth Games time.
02/04/2010
Yesterday I spent a few good hours paper tuning the Contender Elite, and this morning went out and shot a 70m round, 119/118/117 = 354 so I was very pleased. Each arrow that was released well got what it deserved in essence exactly what you are after in a bow. The Contender Elite is very stable in the hand and the grip actually seems to reduce torque caused by the Archer. I have tried with and without metal nocking points x 3 placed 2 inches from where the cam leaves the string, with this bow it seems to group better with the nocking points on.
26/03/2010 - 28/03/2010
AIS Commonwealth Games training camp.
I used my new HOYT Contender Elite this weekend, and what a choice it was.
I got sight settings at the training camp on the Friday and shot it on the Saturday and Sunday, over the entire weekend of 20 matches I only dropped 2 overall. This was the best result of any in the Men's Compound division.
The Contender was a pleasure to shoot, and it nailed a 120 - 6x so I was pretty impressed. Things are really looking up for the Commonwealth Games and the World Cup Series in 2010.
12/03/2010
Pat Coghlan and Sherry Gale, both Pats Archery shooters have made the next stage in the Commonwealth Games Selection process, that of being selected for World Cup events in the coming months!
Congrats Sherry, you have been putting in a load of work, great effort, and yes, I am pretty happy I have made the Team.

The Australia Day shoot in Canberra was dominated by Pats Archery shooting staff, and the HOYT Easton combination.
Steve Clifton 1st Pat Coghlan 2nd, and the return to National Competition of Rob Timms in 3rd.
Sherry Gale 1st and Fiona Hyde 2nd, what a weekend, we couldn't have asked for anymore.

Mount Gambier Shoot.
This event was a great success, another weekend where the family gets to go to a tournament, and a great group of archers that get to catch up.
The MAXXIS 35 was excellent even in the extreme wind conditions. The highest 3 scores of the weekend were all shot by Archers that purchase equipment from PATS ARCHERY. Pat Coghlan 1158 Phil Tremelling 1139 and Jim Larven (CEO Archery Australia) 1120.
Sherry and Jesse Gale put in an awesome show again for Pats Archery winning both divisions they entered in the Mount.
07/01/2010
Staff Shooter Tristan Barrett moves to Queensland and gains HOYT and EASTON sponsorship, great news for Tristan!
Tristan will be shooting the new MAXXIS 35 and the amazing A/C/G Target arrows from Easton, and am sure these will make an awesome combination.
Shoot well mate.

Pat was greatful to receive another Australian Sports Commission Grant for training for the Commonweath Games. Thanks to the ASC and the Commonwealth Games committee.

Pats HOYT MAXXIS 35 arrives - Results so far
Fita 70m Round 1 - 706 with a 116 opener which annoyed me.
Fita 70m Round 2 - 708 with some HOT wind
Feeling, it is unusual to have such a low holding weight, and still have the arrows group so well. I am sure I will play with the holding weight to see the effects on the score and group.
I often try playing with new bows pulling harder and then hardly holding to see the changes in the groups, this was only very slight which is impressive about 1.5 inch variance at 70m, the reason I do this is nerves, we all get them, it just depends when and where. For those that do not feel nerves they may not have the exact same back tension every time the execute the shot and therefore this can change the groups, I do the best i can to tune the group on each bow I have to reduce this group size. What impressed my most was this bow doesn't mind either way or a combination of both which is going to be great in competition situations.
I will shoot it at the club this Saturday, cause the awesome thing about a 35 inch ATA bow is that I can zip tie it to my backpack and ride the GSXR to club
I havent finished tuning, but I honesty just set the nocking point at 1/16th about square and havent touched it.
Cant wait to play with the Contender Elite, but it will have some big shoes to fill.

The AIS weekend was a great experience, lectures on various subjects, including Psychology, fitness, nutrition and form. Time to get into some more training!
Pat has just been notified of his selection in the Commonwealth Games training squad for 2010 and have been offered an AIS Visiting Athlete Scholarship, great news!, also exciting that fellow HOYT Shooter, Duanes Coates and Sherry Gale (Pats Archery Staff Shooter) has also been offered a position; excellent news for Pat, Duane and Sherry.
Some exciting news really, I have been selected as a finalist in the SASI Male Athlete of the Year Awards for 2009.
This is extra exciting due to the profile of Archery within Australia when compared to Sports like Cycling and swimming, the last winner that was an Archer was Simon Fairweather, so I feel very privileged to have been selected as a finalist.
Pat has just started shooting at Southern Vales Archery Club in Morphett Vale, where his archery started 27 years ago, catch up with Pat at the club when he isn't oversea's or interstate shooting on a Saturday.
Also the FIRST Carbon Matrix has arrived at Pats and is ready to be shipped to Dale Monday, I think he has the honour of owning the first CM in Australia.
A Special thanks must go out the people that have supported Scout and the Guide Dog SA Assoc, the support has been amazing and we as a family never expected it.
THANKS
Pat
